Jeni's Ice Creams Sets Grand Opening Celebration in Chapel Hill, Offering Free Scoops and Prizes - Chapelboro.com (2025)

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams is giving away free ice cream for a year as part of its grand opening next week.

The national chain hosted a soft opening for its 223 South Estes Drive location last month, but Jeni’s will celebrate an official debut on March 26.

Between 7 p.m. and midnight, guests can enjoy free scoops all night long, with extra Jeni’s goodies for the first 50 in line. Five lucky goers will even win free ice cream for a year, according to a release about the event. Patrons can enter by downloading the Jeni’s app, signing up for Jeni’s Splendid Rewards program, and scanning the rewards app at checkout.

The store at University Place mall is the Triangle’s third Jeni’s location, joining the Village District Shopping Center spot in Raleigh and the Brightleaf Square location in Durham. The gourmet food and boutique items shop Southern Season formally occupied the local space before it was demolished in 2023.

Chapel Hill’s Jeni’s location overlooks the mall’s public green, where ice-cream goers can enjoy classic Jeni’s flavors — including popular ones like Brambleberry Crisp and Salty Caramel, plus a new spring collection launching on March 27.
